Curtain lining is a part of the more stylish formal curtains or drapes. This term describes a fabric which is attached to the opaque side of curtains. There are numerous types of linings suitable for various practical purposes.
Blackout lining – allows no light to pass through the drape. This type of lining fabric has a coating which fills up the tiny pores in the cloth and thus stops the light from coming through. Similarly, as the thermal lining, blackout lining can also prevent draughts and retain heat inside a room. If you choose curtains with eyelet or wave, please be aware that some light will get through because of the shape of these particular headings.
Thermal lining - Used to regulate a temperature inside a room. This lining is made of a tightly woven fabric, usually in multiple layers. It can help to keep the interior warm during winter and cool in summer time. In addition, it can also stop block out the light and serve as an acoustic dampener.
Crease resistant lining – a type of fabric used to increase the stability of the material making it stiffer so that it holds the curtain shape. Also, it stops harmful UV rays. Crease resistant finishes are applied to cellulose fibres such as cotton, linen or rayon which are most likely to wrinkle. Fabrics with this type of lining have the capacity to quickly recover from creasing after being unfolded.
