A Quick Guide To WALLPAPER INSTALLATION

Step 1 : SUPPLIES

• Tape Measure 
• Broad Knife

Step 2 : INSTALLATION

• Measure and cut wallpaper strips to fit wall height, allowing a few extra inches for trimming.  
• Depending on the hanging instructions that come with the roll either spray, dip in water or apply recommended paste. 
• Then, either book or take the wallpaper directly to the wall, based on the roll hanging instructions. 
• Smooth the wallpaper strip into place with a smoothing brush or sponge. 
• Trim excess wallpaper from the ceiling, baseboards, doors, windows and outlets using a sharp razor knife. Change the blade often for a clean cut. 
• Use a clean damp sponge to wipe off any excess paste that may be on the surface or seams of the wallpaper strip. Change water often. 

Step 3 : KNOWING YOUR WALLPAPER TERMS

• DOUBLE ROLL OR BOLT – is made up of 2 single rolls. 

• UNPASTED – an adhesive must be applied to the back of the wallcovering to apply to the wall surface. 

• PREPASTED – wallpaper that has dried paste on the back of the sheet that is activated with water. 

• BOOKING – the process of folding wet, pasted wallpaper toward the middle, pasted sides together, rolling the strip up as you would a loose newspaper and then set the loose roll aside for a few minutes. 

Booking allows the paper to expand and relax before being applied to the wall, making the paper easier to maneuver on the wall and minimizing the risk of seams separating. 

• PATTERN MATCH – different types of matches 

• WALLPAPER PRIMER – highly recommended, primers will help seal porous surfaces to prevent paste from absorbing into the wall, promoting better “slip” during installation and better “grip” for your wallcovering when dried.

• STRIPPABLE – wallpaper can be stripped from the wall leaving minimal paste residue.
